11-01-94 W. Sweet Wins Paleontological Medal PROFESSOR RECEIVES TOP PALEONTOLOGICAL AWARD COLUMBUS -- Walter C. Sweet of UPPER ARLINGTON, professor emeritus of geological science at The Ohio State University, has been named 1994 recipient of the Paleontological Society medal. It was presented on Oct. 25 at the society's annual meeting in Seattle. The award recognizes outstanding contributions in paleontology -- the study of prehistoric animals from their fossil remains. Sweet is the author of more than 150 articles and a recent book on conodonts, a group of extinct marine animals used worldwide to date petroleum and mineral-fuel deposits. He is past president of the Paleontological Society and of the Pander Society, an international organization of conodont specialists. The Paleontological Society, the major organization of specialists engaged in the study of fossil animals and plants, has an international membership of about 1,600.
