05-05-95 Wolf Elected Chairman of Trustees WOLF, WEXNER TO HEAD OHIO STATE BOARD OF TRUSTEES COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees on Friday (5/5) elected Milton A. Wolf of Cleveland as chairman of the board of trustees, and Leslie H. Wexner of Columbus as vice chairman for the coming year. Wolf succeeds John Kessler as chairman. Kessler's term as a board member expires on May 13. Wolf, 70, who has served as a trustee since 1987, will head the board of a university with an annual budget of $1.5 billion and the largest single-campus enrollment in the country. Ohio State has 55,787 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, including 49,542 on the Columbus campus. Wolf is a 1948 graduate of Ohio State with a bachelor's degree in chemistry and biology. He also holds a bachelor's degree in civil engineering, summa cum laude, from Case Institute of Technology, and a master's degree and doctorate in economics from Case Western Reserve University, where for many years he has been a Distinguished Professorial Lecturer and a member of the CWRU board of trustees. Wolf served as U.S. ambassador to Austria from 1977 to 1980. In 1979, he hosted the historic SALT II Summit in Vienna between U.S. President Carter and U.S.S.R. President Brezhnev and also served as the U.S. delegate to the United Nations Conference on Science and Technology. For his exemplary service, Wolf was awarded Austria's highest decoration, the "Great Gold Medal of Honor with Sash." A director of American Greetings Corp., Huntington Bancshares, and The Town and Country Trust, Wolf also serves on the boards of The Cleveland Clinic, the Mount Sinai Health Care System and the Cleveland Orchestra. He is a past president of the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland and a national trustee of the United Jewish Appeal and the United Israel Appeal. He currently serves as president of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, which is the overseas operational arm of the American Jewish community, carrying out programs of relief, rescue and reconstruction in more than 50 countries around the world. For his work in this area, he was honored earlier this year with the Raoul Wallenberg International Humanitarian Award. In addition, Wolf is a governor of the United Nations Association of the United States, chairman of the American Austrian Foundation, and vice chairman of the Council of American Ambassadors. Wolf and his wife, Roslyn, have four children. They reside in Shaker Heights. Wexner is founder, chairman and president of The Limited Inc., the world's largest specialty fashion retailer. In addition, he is a director and member of the Executive Committee of Sotheby's Holdings Inc. and a trustee of The Aspen Institute. Wexner also is a trustee of the Columbus Jewish Federation and Columbus Jewish Foundation. He is a former member of the Governing Committee of the Columbus Foundation. Wexner has created several endowments administered by the Columbus Foundation and the Wexner Foundation. Beneficiaries of his philanthropy include the Wexner Center for the Arts at Ohio State, the Wexner Institute for Pediatric Research at Children's Hospital, the Martin Luther King Center for the Performing Arts, and the Wexner Heritage Village, all in Columbus, and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Wexner served as a founding member and first chair of The Ohio State University Foundation. Wexner has a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Ohio State, and honorary degrees from Ohio State, Hofstra, Brandeis, and Yeshiva universities and The Jewish Theological Seminary of America. Wexner and his wife, Abigail, have one son. They reside in New Albany. Trustees reappointed Robert M. Duncan of COLUMBUS (43209) as secretary of the board and James L. Nichols of COLUMBUS (43206) as treasurer.
