06-22-95 Student Affairs Administrator Wins Leadership Award STUDENT AFFAIRS ADMINISTRATOR WINS LEADERSHIP AWARD COLUMBUS -- Leslie Ann Beyer, of DELAWARE (43015), the acting assistant director of student affairs for the Marion campus of The Ohio State University, has won the Kathryn T. Schoen Award. The $2,000 prize is awarded annually by the university to a female faculty or staff member to help foster opportunities for professional growth and leadership for women in higher education. Beyer's career in student life has included academic advising, teaching and program coordination. In supporting her nomination for the award, Beyer's director describes her as "an extraordinarily talented, motivated and caring person" with an "unwavering commitment and dedication to diversity issues." Beyer earned her Bachelor of Science degree in education at Ohio State in 1984 and her Master of Arts degree there in 1987. She is currently pursuing a doctorate in higher education and student affairs. Beyer is an active member of The Ohio State University Marion Minority Advisory Committee, an advisor for the Cultural Optimist Club, and coordinator for an exchange program with Wilberforce University. Beyer intends to use her award money to attend two conferences to enhance her understanding of diversity issues. Schoen, a resident of Logan, became the first woman to hold a vice presidency at Ohio State when she was named vice president for educational services in 1978. She served on the faculties of the colleges of Education, Medicine, and Social and Behavioral Sciences and as associate provost for faculties.
