08-16-95 Auction To Benefit Humanities Scholarship Fund ONE-OF-A-KIND AUCTION TO BENEFIT SCHOLARSHIP FUND COLUMBUS -- Would you like to buy two tickets to the Ohio State-Notre Dame football game? Or would you prefer a ride in the Goodyear Blimp or the WCMH helicopter? How about a personal performance by a jazz quartet or a wine tasting party for 20? Maybe you'd like to spend the night in James Thurber's bedroom or play a round of golf with Andy Geiger. These and many other unusual items are on the table at the "Things You Can't Buy Anywhere Else" auction sponsored by the Humanities Alumni Society of The Ohio State University. To be held at the society's fifth annual tailgate party on Saturday, Sept. 16, from 1 to 3 p.m. on the Oval side of University Hall prior to the Ohio State-Washington football game, the event is a fund-raiser for the Humanities Alumni Scholarship Fund. There will be a buffet of international foods and entertainment by the Alumni Men's Glee Club, as well as the auction conducted by Jerry Cameron, an Ohio State alumnus from Columbus. Both live and silent auctions will be held and the bidding will encompass a wide range of prices. A partial list of auction items includes: * an Ohio State basketball signed by coach Randy Ayers * an Ohio State football signed by coach John Cooper * tickets to President E. Gordon Gee's pre-game brunch and the Iowa football game * a wine tasting party for 20 * golf and lunch with Athletic Director Andy Geiger * a performance by a quartet from the OSU Jazz Program * paintings by a Santa Fe artist * a bow tie autographed by President Gee * arrangements of "Hang On, Sloopy" and a CD of Ohio * State music autographed by arranger John Tatgenhorst * tickets and autographed ballet slippers from BalletMet * two tickets to the OSU-Notre Dame football game, along with two game hats and two game T-shirts * a night in the Thurber House in James Thurber's bed * a ride in the Goodyear Blimp * a ride in the WCMH-TV helicopter * two tickets to B.G. Salvi's Grandview Inn Big Band Night The event planning is being led by four members of the Humanities Alumni Society: Al Wittkopp of Dublin, president of the society's board; Noreen Palmer of Reynoldsburg, first vice president; and Marilyn Pritchett and Gretchen Hirsch, both of Upper Arlington, board members. The tailgate party and auction are open to all. There is a $40 per person charge for the party and a game ticket, or $15 for the party only. There is no charge to participate in the auction. To ensure that there are sufficient supplies, pre- registration is required for the luncheon and game and encouraged for the auction.
