10-05-95 Parents Weekend Activities Oct. 13-15 PARENTS TO EXPLORE OHIO STATE DURING PARENTS' WEEKEND OCT. 13 COLUMBUS -- More than 1,800 parents and guardians of Ohio State University students will participate in activities ranging from campus tours to Sunday brunch with President E. Gordon Gee during Parents' Weekend Oct. 13-15. "We want to help parents understand what the university is," said Bill Wahl, director of the Parent Association and coordinator of Parents' Weekend. "Thhis is a time for them to get to know the faculty and administrators and talk with other parents." Parents will take part in a number of activities throughout the weekend designed to familiarize them with their children's educational experiences on campus. "As parents become more involved they will see that we are all here to help their children," Wahl said. Parents, students and an expected 350 siblings can learn about Ohio State's history, Greek homes, athletic facilities and academic service units on various walking tours Saturday (10/14) at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Also at 11 a.m., parents can converse with staff and faculty in the Ohio Union Buckeye Suites on the academic components of the university. A scarlet and gray tailgate party will be held at noon at the French Field House, complete with Brutus Buckeye and members of the Ohio State band. Following the tailgate party, a cookout will be held at 5:30 p.m. Beginning at 7 p.m., parents can swing to the big band sounds of the Jim Franck Band and dance to the rhythm of Mothers Other at a sock hop in the French Field House. Parents can end the evening with a preview of the Ohio State basketball team during a scarlet and gray scrimmage at Midnight Madness in St. John Arena. Sunday (10/15) at 9 a.m. and 11 a.m., parents can enjoy a buffet style brunch with Gee in the Ohio Union Ballrooms.
