10-27-95 Campus Partners Board Seeks to Add Two Students CAMPUS PARTNERS BOARD SEEKS TO ADD TWO STUDENTS COLUMBUS -- The Board of Trustees of Campus Partners hopes to add two students from The Ohio State University to the board this fall through a public nomination process. Ohio State established Campus Partners last January as a non-profit community redevelopment corporation to work with the City of Columbus, the University District neighborhoods and the university itself to improve the residential and retail area around Ohio State. Campus Partners staff members met in the past few weeks with student leaders and with the editorial board of The Lantern. In those meetings, students expressed their interest in Campus Partners' planning work and asked to be represented on the Board of Trustees of Campus Partners. Kevin Sheriff, president of Undergraduate Student Government, and Jenny Nelson, vice president of USG, met last week with the Campus Partners board to present the case for two students to serve on the board. The Campus Partners board agreed and authorized a public nomination process to seek two students for board membership with full voting privileges. Any undergraduate, graduate or professional student in good academic standing may apply for a seat on the Campus Partners board. Nomination forms are available at seven offices on campus and must be returned to the Campus Partners office, 1824 N. High St., by noon on Friday, Nov. 3. The nomination forms may be picked up at the Office of Student Life, 208 Ohio Union; Off-Campus Student Services office, 211 Ohio Union; Undergraduate Student Government office, 306 Ohio Union; Office of Residence and Dining Halls, 600 Lincoln Tower; Council of Graduate Students office, 55 Jones Graduate Tower; Frank Hale Black Cultural Center, 153 W. 12th Ave.; and Campus Partners office, 1824 N. High St. A nominating committee will review the nominees and will recommend candidates for selection by the Campus Partners board. The nominating committee will give preference to nominees who have lived on- or off-campus in the University District for at least one year and who plan to continue to live in the University District during the term of service on the board. The University District is bounded by Fifth Avenue on the south, Glen Echo Ravine (just north of Arcadia Avenue) on the north, the Conrail railroad tracks on the east and the Olentangy River on the west. The nominating committee will be composed of one student representative each from Undergraduate Student Government, the Council of Graduate Students, the Inter- Professional Student Council, and the Off-Campus Student Services Advisory Council; two additional students; a staff member from the Office of Student Life; and two current members of the Campus Partners board. The Campus Partners board is chaired by David Williams II, vice president for student services. The board currently has 14 members, including 10 university officials, three residents of the University District and the chief of staff to the Columbus mayor. Campus Partners' primary work this year has been to develop a comprehensive improvement plan for the University District. Public meetings were held on-and off-campus last spring and summer to gather community input. The Campus Partners consulting team has worked this summer and early fall to incorporate data on existing conditions and from the extensive public participation into an improvement plan. A draft plan will be released in early November. To present the draft and receive input, Campus Partners has scheduled public meetings Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. at Indianola Middle School, 420 E. 19th Ave., and Nov. 15 at 9 a.m. in the Ohio Union. # Contact: Steve Sterrett, community relations director for Campus Partners, 294-7300.
