The Ohio Stadium football field is being resodded with 100 percent Kentucky bluegrass as long as weather conditions remain favorable. Natural grass (Kentucky bluegrass) replaced worn-out artificial turf at the stadium in 1990. After six years of punishing use by football players and periodic reseeding of fast-growing ryegrass, the field is about 80% ryegrass. The $48,000 project must be completed this fall in order for the turf to establish itself before Columbus' new major league soccer team begins play in Ohio Stadium next April.
