96-01-09 Gee & Daniel Publish Law Casebook EDUCATION CASEBOOK AIMED AT STUDENTS, LAWYERS, ADMINISTRATORS COLUMBUS -- Two legal scholars from Ohio State University, President E. Gordon Gee and Philip T.K. Daniel, have written a book on educational case law with Hebrew University scholar Stephen Goldstein. Gee is a professor of law and Daniel is an associate professor of educational administration and an adjunct professor of law. "Law and Public Education: Cases and Materials" is a case book on constitutional issues facing school boards, administrators, teachers, students, and parents. The book is intended for use by students of law and education as well as school administrators and attorneys, according to Daniel. The 1,549-page tome was published in December by Michie Co., a Charlottesville, Va., legal publisher. "The book is a compilation of good law in legal disputes about education," said Daniel, whose research interests include school choice and due process hearings in special education. The textbook covers such topics as compulsory education, public education finance, the rights of students to free expression and the rights and education of disabled children. Other topics include racial desegregation, church-state relations, the employment of teachers, and the control of student conduct. Information is provided in the form of cases, law review articles, excerpts from books, and a series of narratives, comprehensive notes and questions. Daniel and Gee teach a second-semester seminar on education and the law in Ohio State's College of Law. Goldstein is the Edward Silver Professor of Civil Procedure at Hebrew University of Jerusalem. "Anybody who has a need for a course involving legal issues in education will find this book useful," Daniel said. # Contact: E. Gordon Gee, (614) 292-2424, or Philip T. K. Daniel, (614) 292-7700.
