THE OSU "SMOKIN' BUCKEYE" ELECTRIC CAR RACES AGAIN--Mar. 1-3. It's the start of a new season for experimental electric vehicles. The Ohio State team will compete against 10 other university entries, including cars from Bowling Green and Case Western at the 1.1 mile course at Firebird International Raceway near Phoenix, Arizona. The "Smokin' Buckeye," designed, built and maintained by university engineering students, is powered by twin battery packs. Battery- powered cars usually exceed speeds of 100 mph. The car is one of several experimental vehicles being constructed and raced by students and faculty at the OSU Center for Automotive Research. UNIVERSITY SENATE MEETS--Mar. 2 The University Senate, the university's internal governing body, holds its regular monthly meeting at 9 a.m. in room 103 Kottman Hall, 2021 Coffey Rd. Weston Naef, curator of photographs at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and alumnus of the OSU Department of Art History, will present Alfred Stieglitz: Seeing the Unseen, at 8 p.m., Wexner Center Film/Video Theatre, 1891 N. The College of Humanities hosts the fourth and final event in this series that features a faculty presentation and meal before selected basketball games. Susan Williams, assistant professor of English, will talk about Prophetic Pictures: American Writers and the Advent of Photography. Williams will examine the early history of photography in the U.S. by looking at how wriiters responded to and were influenced by the invention of the Daguerreotype. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on the Lane, 328 W. Lane Ave., and precedes the men's game vs. Indiana. CONTACT: Shari Lorbach, College of Humanities, 292-1882.
