96-03-12 Mitchell receives Student Recognition BRIAN MITCHELL RECEIVES STUDENT RECOGNITION AWARD COLUMBUS -- Brian Mitchell of CINCINNATI (45213), a junior majoring in mechanical engineering, has won The Ohio State University Board of Trustees Student Recognition Award. The award was presented during the Feb. 29 meeting of the board. Mitchell was honored for his efforts to resuscitate Shimshon Zimering, a professor of mathematics, who suffered a heart attack while teaching a class during summer quarter. An Army ROTC cadet who learned lifesaving skills as a life guard, Mitchell performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on Zimering until paramedics arrived. Zimering survived the heart attack, but died several months later. Mitchell, who is also an Army reservist, has made the university honor roll and was first in his class at Advanced Individualized Training at Fort Gordon, Ga., where he studied radio and communications operations. Mitchell is the son of Jill and Bruce Mitchell of CINCINNATI (45213). He is a 1991 graduate of Walnut Hills High School, and hopes to find a career in government or research.
