The bus is scheduled to arrive at the building, 1929 Kenny Road, at approximately 2 p.m. on May 7. The ENC will be holding tours and demonstrations beginning at 1:30 p.m. The C-SPAN bus is a fully equipped television studio aboard a 45-foot bus made by Custom Coach of Columbus. Two C-SPAN buses are traveling the country during this presidential election year to bring the campaign to young voters. Several local education, business and political leaders are expected to attend. Computers will be available for local dignitaries, media representatives and teachers to connect to some of the nation's most exciting math and science Internet sites gathered by ENC. Approximately 25 elementary, middle and secondary school teachers from Columbus Public Schools will show how they use the resources available from ENC. ENC will demonstrate another new technology to link with teachers at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. Using the computerized C U SeeMe videoconferencing software, Ohio teachers will ask questions and communicate with educators at the California site. ENC collects and catalogues materials for K-12 science and math teachers and others in an effort to promote excellence and make the best materials available to all educators. ENC makes the materials available to teachers through the Internet or toll- free modem access to ENC Online, in print through a variety of publications, and on CD-ROM. The ENC collection includes print materials, video, audio, graphic images, software, kits, and Internet resources. Catalog entries describe the material, suggested grade level, awards received, and how the material may be ordered. "The C-SPAN bus visit is a great way to demonstrate how ENC is using technology to reach a national audience of mathematics and science teachers. We're proud that they have selected us as a site worthy of national attention," said Len Simutis, ENC director. While at ENC, the five member C-SPAN Bus crew will investigate how technology can be used to improve education. The network will broadcast portions from the Columbus visit at various times in the weeks following the visit. The ENC is funded through the Excellence in Mathematics, Science and Engineering Education Act of 1990. The goal of ENC is promote excellence in science and math education by providing support to teachers and students. # CONTACT: Peg Hanley, Eisenhower National Clearinghouse, 292-9984, or Amy Murray, University Communications, 292-8385.
