The Olympic flame will be carried through the campus en-route to the Olympics in Atlanta, beginning at 6:31 a.m. on Saturday morning. The route takes the torch through the Short North from City Hall. The torch enters the campus at the intersection of King Avenue and Cannon Drive. The flame is carried on north on Cannon; right on 12th Avenue and left on College Road. The torch goes past the Oval on College, then right on Woodruff; left on High Street and to Worthington. The route of the torch, which was planned by a committee in Atlanta, does not take the torch past Ohio Stadium or the Jesse Owens Plaza in front of the stadium. Several former Ohio State athletes and Olympians will carry the torch through Franklin County. POLAR RESEARCHERS REVIEW ANTARCTIC EXPLORATION--June 10. How the South was Won: A Review of the First 150 Years of Geological Exploration of Antarctica is the topic of a special lecture sponsored by the Byrd Polar Research Center. Dr. Robert Tingey of the Australian Geological Survey Organization in Canberra, Australia, will present the lecture at 12:00 noon in Room 240, Scott Hall, 1090 Carmack Rd. The new shopping center that will be built at Kinnear and Olentangy River Roads (where the Lennox plant was formerly located), will be unveiled for university staff members at a presentation from 11:30a.m. to 12:30p.m. in the Drake Union River Den, 1849 Cannon Drive. Jon Meyer of Continental Real Estate will have sketches of the complex and will answer questions. The presentation is sponsored by the University Staff Advisory Committee (USAC). CONTACT: USAC Action Line, 688-8722. MEN AND WOMEN WITH LUNG DISEASE NEEDED FOR STUDY ON EXERCISE--Ohio State researchers are studying the impact of exercise on people with chronic lung disease. Volunteers are needed to participate in a study of how short bouts of exercise affect lung patients in the short-term -- physically, psychologically and cognitively. The researchers are looking for men and women over age 55 who've been diagnosed with COPD (chronic bronchitis or emphysema) for at least six months. UNIVERSITY AREA SCHEDULED FOR BI-WEEKLY CLEANINGS--The Public Service Department of the city of Columbus will begin sweeping streets throughout the University District on the second Thursday and second Friday of each month from April through November. The sweeping will begin in June with the even-numbered (north and east) side of the streets being swept on Thursday, June 13, and the odd- numbered (south and west) side of the streets being swept on Friday, June 14. Sweeping will be conducted between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day. Signs are being installed to remind residents to move their parked vehicles during the hours of the sweeping. This sweeping is in addition to a quarterly sweeping of all streets in the high-density, predominantly student neighborhood east of Ohio State. The second quarterly street sweeping will take place June 11 and 12 in an area bounded by North High Street on the west, North Fourth Street on the east, East Norwich Avenue on the north and East 11th Avenue on the south.
