96-09-12 Media Tour of Galbreath Equine Center NEWS ADVISORY: MEDIA OFFERED PREVIEW TOUR OF NEW GALBREATH EQUINE CENTER The Daniel M. Galbreath Equine Trauma, Intensive Care and Research Center at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine will be dedicated Saturday, Sept. 21. About 300 supporters of the center are expected to attend the 9 a.m. ceremony, which will feature remarks by President E. Gordon Gee, college and veterinary society officials, and a representative of the Galbreath family. Reporters are welcome, but... Because the dedication event is not ideal for media coverage (timing, crowded, key people not available for interviews), reporters and photographers are invited to a special preview tour of the building at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 20. You will have an opportunity to walk through the entire facility and take photos and video. On hand to answer questions and do one-on-one interviews will be Glen Hoffsis, dean of the College of Veterinary Medicine; Stephen Reed, head of the college's equine section; and other members of the faculty. Please meet at the entrance to the covered connector between the new building and the Veterinary Hospital on Tharp Road, accessible from either Coffey Road or Herrick Drive -- just follow the signs to the Veterinary Hospital. The $7 million, 40,000-square-foot Galbreath Equine Center will offer sophisticated diagnostic and therapeutic equipment for horses, comparable to that used in human hospitals. The new center includes two state-of-the-art surgery rooms, 14 intensive care stalls, 19 additional patient stalls, radiology facilities, treatment areas, office space, and more. Space has been planned for the addition of a high-speed treadmill in the near future. # Contact: Larry Rummell, director of development for the College of Veterinary Medicine, 292-1171, or Ruth Gerstner, University Communications, 292-8424.
