96-12-06 Trustees: Establish Chair, Create Funds ACTIONS OF THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY BOARD OF TRUSTEES COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees on Friday (12/6) created a new chair in medicine and 12 new named endowed funds. Trustees established The John H. and Mildred C. Lumley Chair in Medicine, created with gifts totaling $2.24 million, from the estate of the Lumleys. The couple, who lived in Belleair, Fla., both graduated from Ohio State in the 1920s. Annual income from the endowment will provide salary and program support for a nationally eminent faculty member who researches heart disease, cancer and arthritis. Board creates 12 named endowed funds Trustees accepted 12 new named endowed funds with gifts totaling $545,103: -- The Frank B. Kroeger Scholarship Fund, $100,000 for scholarships in the College of Engineering. -- The Kathryn L. Hopwood Scholarship Fund, $77,470 for scholarships to nontraditional women undergraduate students. -- The Stella R. Jenks Education Scholarship Fund, $33,404 for students in the College of Education. -- The Katherine L. Hall Prize Fund, $26,500 for awards to outstanding female junior students majoring in humanities. -- The Phyllis J. Bailey Endowment Fund, $25,690 to support women athletes. -- The Millard M. Cummins Weights and Scale Collection Support Fund, $25,000 to support upkeep of the Cummins Collection of Weights and Scales in the College of Engineering. -- The Alumni Club of Lee County, Florida, Endowed Scholarship Fund, $23,638 for scholarships to students from area high schools. -- Terry Hemeyer/Jack O. Evans Scholarship Fund, $22,530 for scholarships in the School of Music. -- The Fields Faculty Award Fund, $20,634 for excellence in teaching and research by a faculty member in the College of Dentistry. -- The Cuyahoga County 4-H Endowment Fund, $15,236 to support the Cuyahoga County 4-H program. -- The Benua Foundation Undergraduate Scholarship Fund, $150,000 for scholarships in the Fisher College of Business. -- Helen H.
