Slane, an attorney and shopping center developer, will become the newest member of the Ohio State Board of Trustees. Gov. George V. Voinovich today (3/13) named Slane, a Franklin County Republican, to a nine-year term beginning May 14. He will succeed Leslie H. Wexner, whose term will expire. "We are delighted with Governor Voinovich's appointment of Dan Slane to the university's Board of Trustees," said President E. Gordon Gee. "In addition to his considerable business acumen and community involvement, Mr. Slane brings with him a long association with the university, having earned two Ohio State degrees. "He joins a strong, effective Board that has high aspirations and expectations for this university," Gee said. Slane received his B.S. degree in business administration in 1964 and J.D. degree in 1967 from The Ohio State University. He also received his M.A. degree in international law in 1970 from the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands. He is a life member of the Ohio State University Alumni Association. Slane serves as Chairman of the Ohio Building Authority, which manages state buildings, and the State Board of Building Appeals, which examines state building code variances. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the Ohio Capital Corp., which is developing government-subsidized apartment projects in Ohio. In addition, Slane serves on the Board of Trustees of Hiram College, a liberal arts college in Hiram, Ohio, and was elected to the Board of Directors of The Campus, a group with hospitals in Columbus and Cleveland. Rofagha, who will replace Holly A. Smith in May, is working toward a B.A. degree in chemistry and political science. She is a student research assistant in a chemistry laboratory. "Soraya Rofagha is an active undergraduate who cares deeply about the quality of the educational experience," Gee said. "She has already exhibited those leadership qualities that have served our student trustees so well."
