ANNUAL SPRING FOOTBALL GAME--April 26. Ohio Stadium is the site of the annual Scarlet and Gray spring football game at 1:30 p.m. The game, which marks the end of spring practice sessions, offers fans an early glimpse at the 1997 football team. CONTACT: Sports Information, 292-6861. AVIATION PSYCHOLOGY CONFERENCE EXAMINES FLIGHT ERROR REDUCTION-- April 27-May 1. Recent events in global aviation are renewing attention of aviation safety issues and systems. Recognizing that most accidents are caused by flight crew errors, the FAA has made dozens of recommendations for safety, including new cockpit design and improved automation systems. Nearly 500 aviation experts from 35 nations will gather at the Hyatt Regency, 350 N. High St., for Reducing the Impact of Human Error in the World- Wide Aviation System, the ninth international biennial symposium on aviation psychology. Dozens of workshops will address topics including pilot fatigue, flight deck design, human performance in extreme environments, cross-cultural cockpit issues, training, and risk assessment. James Reason from the University of Manchester, UK, will deliver the keynote address on Tuesday, around 9:30 a.m., in the Franklin Room. Oleg Atkov, a Russian cardiologist who spent nine months on space station Mir, will speak at the banquet, Tuesday at 8 p.m. in the Regency Ballroom. TOP PEACE CORPS OFFICIAL HONORS OHIO STATE--April 29-May 1. Peace Corps Associate Director Patricia Garamendi will visit campus to meet with former and future Peace Corps volunteers. 1,200 graduates of OSU have served as Peace Corps volunteers since the agency's founding in 1961. Currently, 45 OSU graduates are overseas as Peace Corps volunteers. Garamendi will participate in recruitment events for students and community members during the day. In the evening, she will honor OSU as one of the leading producers of Peace Corps volunteers in the country in a presentation and reception at 7 p.m. in the Ohio Union main lounge, 1739 N. Wilma Mankiller, the first woman chief of the Cherokee Nation, will speak to students at 7:30 p.m. in the Ohio Union East Ballroom, 1739 N. High St. A co-author of "The Reader's Companion to the U.S. Women's History," Mankiller addresses the events, issues and individuals that have shaped the history of women in the U.S. based on a cultural perspective. The complexities and uniqueness of Asian diversity in culture, language and peoples will be explored as Ohio State celebrates Asian Awareness Month. There are more than 3,000 Asian students at Ohio State, and organizers hope to combat stereotypes that can create barriers between students. The celebration kicks off May 1with an Asian Food and Cultural Fair in the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St. Throughout the month there are lectures, plays, exhibits and other events to increase understanding of the various Asian cultures. The Ohio State University Board of Trustees will hold its regular monthly meeting at 10:30 a.m. in the performance space of the Wexner Center, 1891 N. High Street. About 2,000 Ohio State University students, faculty and staff will join neighborhood residents in the sixth High on Pride University Community Cleanup from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Volunteers will work in two-hour shifts to pick up litter, remove bulk trash, sweep streets and sidewalks and collect recyclables in the neighborhood south of campus. The area is roughly bounded by North Fourth Street, Fifth Avenue, 12th and 11th Avenue and Neil Avenue. It also includes an area bounded by King Avenue, Perry Street and Eighth Avenue. The Medieval and Renaissance periods of history have long since passed, but Ohio State students and faculty will keep the traditions alive at the 22nd annual ‘Ren Fest’ on the South Oval (12th Avenue and College Road). The theme of this year’s festival is Arthurian Legends. The festival begins at 11 a.m. with a Grand Processional through Mirror Lake Hollow. Throughout the day, costumed performer will entertain visitors with medieval swordfights, plays, a human chessboard, dances, juggling, magic and music.
