97-05-05 OSU Expands Employee Charitable Drive OHIO STATE ANNOUNCES EXPANDED 1997 COMMUNITY CHARITABLE DRIVE COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University, Columbus campus, has expanded its community charitable drive to include groups in addition to United Way. Any central Ohio health and human services federation -- a group of agencies within an umbrella organization -- may now apply to participate in the annual fund- raiser. “Ohio State has a strong history of giving to the community,” said Larry Lewellen, acting vice president for human resources. “We’re pleased to continue that tradition and to broaden donor options for faculty and staff.” The university began researching an expanded drive at the request of Greater Columbus Community Shares, a federation of agencies that are not affiliated with United Way. Ohio State will select one federation to administer the drive, which will operate in much the same manner that the United Way campaign has in past years. The expanded drive will be reviewed and evaluated in two years, Lewellen said. Charitable health and human services federations in central Ohio may apply to participate in Ohio State’s 1997 Community Charitable Drive, and they may apply to coordinate the drive. Applications for both are due May 22 to: Cathy Cooper, Director of Human Resources Administration, 113 Archer House, 2130 Neil Ave., Columbus, Ohio 43210.
