97-06-11 Schoen Award Goes to Conry & Brooker TWO OHIO STATE STAFF MEMBERS RECEIVE SCHOEN AWARD COLUMBUS -- Two Ohio State University staff members will enhance their leadership and administrative abilities with the help of the 1997 Kathryn T. Schoen Award. Julie Conry of COLUMBUS (43235) and Nancy A. Brooker of WOOSTER will receive their awards and cash honorariums during a luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. June 11 at the Faculty Club, 181 S. Oval Mall. Ohio State President E. Gordon Gee will make the presentations. Conry is a development officer for the College of Nursing. With her $2,000 Schoen Award, she will attend a certification program in fundraising management. The program will assist Conry in developing additional research on women’s philanthropy and careers in fundraising. Conry also will generate professional development programs in philanthropy. Brooker is a licensed professional counselor in the Office of Academic Affairs at the university’s Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster. She will use her $1,000 Schoen Award to attend a conference on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, a test of individual differences and cultural diversity. She will use information from the conference to continue research into the characteristics of students who enroll at ATI, a two-year technical program. Her studies show ATI students have a Myers- Briggs profile much different from that shown by typical college students nationwide. Kathryn Schoen became the first woman vice president at Ohio State when she was appointed to lead educational services in 1978. In more than 20 years of service, she gave her students and the university her greatest commitment and priority. She was known for giving others, particularly women, opportunities for professional growth. Kathryn Schoen and her husband, Richard, continue to set examples for others by giving to the Schoen Award Fund. They live in Longwood, Fla. # Contacts: Julie Conry, (614) 292-2658 Nancy Brooker, (303) 264-3911 [Submitted by: Von Vargas (vargas.12@osu.edu) Wed, 11 Jun 1997 10:00:47 -0400 (EDT)] All documents are the responsibility of their originator.
