97-06-11 Three Receive Career Services Award THREE SHOW OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO OHIO STATE STUDENTS COLUMBUS -- An international studies staff member and two business faculty members will receive The Ohio State University’s first Career Services Awards June 18. The three will be recognized for helping students make career decisions, even though their jobs are outside the career services area. The inaugural awards from the Career Services Committee honor Karlene Foster of UPPER ARLINGTON, Raymond Krasniewski of COLUMBUS (43229) and Robert Leone of UPPER ARLINGTON. David Williams II, vice president for student affairs, will present each with a certificate and $500 honorarium. Foster is an academic counselor and staff assistant for international studies. She created an International Studies Internship Directory and organizes an annual career symposium for students who are majoring in international studies. One nominator wrote: “Ms. Foster supports students every step of the way helping them design an appropriate resume; placing them in local, out-of-state or (overseas) internships; and, finally, providing students with career guidance.” A student said, “Karlene Foster makes sure she is available to students. She just recently created an e-mail listing in order to inform them of internships and employment opportunities.” Krasniewski is an associate professor of accounting and management information systems in the Fisher College of Business. He has coordinated an internship program for accounting students for many years. One nominator said: “Accounting students participating in the internship program... gain experience and maturity, and most often leave with a full-time job offer. Their marketability is clearly enhanced.” A colleague wrote: “The university is a better place thanks to Ray Krasniewski. Thanks to his hard work... more than 1,000 undergraduates have obtained meaningful work experience. In addition, virtually all of them obtain permanent positions with these employers upon graduation.” Leone holds the Berry Chair in the Department of Marketing, Fisher College of Business. A Masters of Business Administration student who nominated Leone said, “His knowledge not only of marketing principles, but of the companies that are dominant in the packaged goods industry, was impressive and gave me much needed insight into the career I was pursuing.” Another student commented, “It was his encouragement that prompted me to utilize the full range of services available from Student Career Services, including participating in mock interviews and leveraging the college’s relationship with former students through the alumni network. In addition, Dr. Leone integrated his advocacy for early career development into the course curriculum.” # Contacts: Karlene Foster, (614) 292-9657 or foster.24@osu.edu Raymond Krasniewski, (614) 292-1822 or krasniewski.1@osu.edu Robert Leone, (614) 292-1155 or leone.7@osu.edu [Submitted by: Von Vargas (vargas.12@osu.edu) Wed, 11 Jun 1997 09:46:15 -0400 (EDT)] All documents are the responsibility of their originator.
