97-08-08 Three Directors Appointed in Office of Student Life THREE DIRECTORS NAMED IN THE RESTRUCTURED OFFICE OF STUDENT LIFE AT OHIO STATE COLUMBUS -- Three directors have been appointed to head the newly formed administrative units in the restructured Office of Student Life, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs Mary Daniels has announced. The units, or clusters, replace the nine student services and programming units that formerly constituted Student Life. The appointments are the result of a nationwide search, Daniels said. Willa Young of COLUMBUS (43202), coordinator of Women Student Services, will head the Student Gender and Sexuality cluster, which includes the Rape Education and Prevention Program (REPP); gay, lesbian, and bisexual student services; and women student services. A men’s issues component is to be added in the future. Young has been on staff at Ohio State since 1982 and has served in a number of positions, including program coordinator for REPP and as a lecturer in the Department of Women’s Studies and the College of Medicine’s Medical Humanities Program. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Capital University and her master’s degree from Ohio State. Tracy Stuck of COLUMBUS (43235), coordinator of Greek Affairs, will head the Student Activities cluster, which includes student organization services, greek affairs, student events and a leadership development component. Before coming to Ohio State in 1994, Stuck was the director of student activities and assistant director of the Student Union at Ohio Northern University. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Westminster College and her master’s degree from Slippery Rock University. Janice Hoffman, assistant director of residence life at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will head the Ethnic Student Services cluster, which includes African American, Asian American, American Indian and Hispanic student services. Hoffman served as an assistant hall director and coordinator of African American Student Services at Ohio State before she left to become resident director of the Department of Housing and Food Services at the University of Washington in 1990. She was named assistant director of residence life at Framingham State College in 1992, and was named to her current position at the University of Illinois at Chicago in 1994. Hoffman earned her bachelor’s degree from Winthrop University and her master’s degree from Ohio State. “We are very excited about the quality of the candidates that were chosen for the positions. Each is a proven professional, through whose leadership we can achieve the goals we set forth in restructuring Student Life,” Daniels said. “With the addition of the directors, we are able to serve all students better, eliminate duplication and draw upon strengths to create a collaborative and interactive effort.” Daniels said the restructuring creates levels that interact more directly with students, and will support programming for a broader base of students by programming for issues that cut across different constituencies within the cluster. “The advantage of the clusters is to stress the importance of creating a team to move forward with the new structure, and to emphasize collaboration between the units,” Daniels said. # Contact: Mary Daniels, assistant vice president for student affairs, (614) 292-9334.
