PROFESSOR OFFERS NEW FORMULAS FOR CHILDREN’S MEDICINE--President Clinton this week ordered drug makers to start testing medications to determine their safety, effectiveness and proper dosages in children. Milhap Nahata, a professor of pharmacy at Ohio State, says physicians have very few choices when prescribing medicines for kids, since about 80 percent of prescription drugs are have not been tested for use in children. He says it is expensive to perform pediatric studies, and parents are apprehensive about enrolling their kids in drug studies.
