97-08-19 Tickets on sale Aug. 23 for Rolling Stones Concert TICKETS ON SALE AUG. 23 FOR ROLLING STONES CONCERT AT OHIO STADIUM COLUMBUS -- The British rock group the Rolling Stones will perform a concert at Ohio Stadium at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 27 as part of the “Bridges to Babylon Tour 1997,” Ohio State University officials announced Monday (8/18). Tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Saturday (8/23) through Ticketmaster. Tickets are $61 each plus a $5.25 service charge payable by cash only at Ticketmaster outlets; a $6.75 service fee will be charged for phone credit card sales through Ticketmaster, 431-3600. A random number distribution system will be used to order the lines of ticket buyers at the outlets. Random numbers will be distributed one hour prior to the 10 a.m. sales time, with one number per customer. Fifteen minutes before tickets go on sale, a random number will be drawn from all of the distributed stubs; the customer holding that number will be first in line, and all others will follow in numerical order. Some 59,000 tickets are available for sale, with accessible seating available for people with disabilities. There will be no on-campus pre-sale tickets. The “worst seats in the house” tickets are $40.50 and also will be available for sale beginning Saturday. As with the Irish rock group U2’s Popmart concert in May in Ohio Stadium, the Rolling Stones concert is produced locally by Ohio State. Proceeds from the use of the stadium and a promotional fee will benefit student programming and activities at the university. “Ohio Stadium is the only Ohio tour location, and with the open-end horseshoe, is the perfect venue for such a tour,” said Sharon Rone, booking and event scheduling director at The Ohio State University. “Ohio State actively sought this tour and plans to continue seeking other groups.” Rone and David Williams, vice president for student affairs, announced the concert and ticket arrangements. The opening act for the Rolling Stones is A&M Records band Blues Traveler. # Contact: Sharon Rone, booking and event scheduling director, (614) 688-4677.
