97-09-05 Trustees: Presidential Search Committee Appointed PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH COMMITTEE APPOINTED, CONSULTANT HIRED COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees on Friday (9/5) appointed 17 persons to serve on a Presidential Search Committee to recommend a replacement for President E. Gordon Gee, whose resignation is effective at the end of 1997. The committee is chaired by Alex Shumate, chair of the Board of Trustees. He will give updates on the committee’s work to the board at each regularly scheduled board meeting until the search is concluded. The trustees charged the committee with planning and directing “all aspects of a comprehensive and expeditious search for a new president including, but not limited to, developing a list of candidates and verifying their qualifications, availability and interest in the position; and making a recommendation of one or more candidates to the Board during the first quarter of 1998.” The following persons comprise the committee: -- Four members of the Board of Trustees -- Alex Shumate, chair, Tamala Longaberger, James F. Patterson, George A. Skestos. -- Five members of the faculty -- Bruce E. Bursten, professor of chemistry; David O. Frantz, professor of English; Jane M. Fraser, associate professor of industrial, systems and welding engineering; Alan J. Randall, professor of agricultural economics; Sally V. Rudmann, associate professor of allied medical professions. -- One vice president -- Jerry A. May, vice president for development. -- Two students -- John Carney, president of Undergraduate Student Government; Clara Cuellar, a doctoral candidate in sports management. -- Two deans -- Kermit L. Hall, dean of the College of Humanities; Bernadine P. Healy, dean of the College of Medicine and Public Health. -- One representative of the Alumni Association -- Dan L. Heinlen, president and CEO of The Ohio State University Alumni Association. -- Two non-teaching staff members -- Jeri Kozobarich, director of development for the College of Education; Jack D. Miner, fiscal officer for the Department of Physics. William J. Napier, secretary of the Board of Trustees, will serve as search committee coordinator. Trustees also awarded a contract to Korn/Ferry International, a professional search consulting firm, to assist the committee. R.
