97-09-10 News Conference 9/17, Back to School NEWS ADVISORY: UNIVERSITY ADMINISTRATORS OUTLINE NEW SCHOOL YEAR PLANS Autumn quarter classes at The Ohio State University begin Wednesday, September 24. This is a very exciting and busy time for university faculty, students and staff. Over the next week, close to 50,000 students will be moving into residence halls and off-campus housing, participating in expanded Welcome Week activities, and taking care of last-minute details before classes begin. The Office of University Communications has organized a news availability with the administrators who are responsible for major elements of the new school year. Reporters are invited to the omnibus informal news conference on Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 10:30 a.m. in 156 University Hall, 230 N. Oval Mall. Since this is a very busy time of year for these people, they may not be able to honor all requests from news organizations for individual interviews. This is your best chance to meet and interview these administrators prior to the opening of school. Media should park on the 17th Avenue side of University Hall, accessible from Woody Hayes Drive via Tuttle Park Place. Among those you may meet and interview: Sarah Blouch, director of transportation and parking services (parking and detour questions); Bill Hall, assistant vice president for housing, food services and event centers (residence and dining hall questions); Jim Mager, assistant vice president for admissions and financial aid (student demographics questions); Tally Hart, director of financial aid (more than 60% of students work with this office to obtain financial aid); David Williams II, vice president for student affairs (student program and Welcome Week questions).
