97-09-23 Gee To Deliver Leadership Lecture PRESIDENT GEE TO DELIVER FIRST LENA C. BAILEY MEMORIAL LECTURE ON LEADERSHIP COLUMBUS -- Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee will be the first speaker in a new lecture series established as a memorial to Lena C. Bailey, former dean and professor emeritus of the College of Human Ecology, who died in October 1996. Gee’s speech on leadership will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8 in the East Ballroom of the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St. A reception will follow the lecture. Both the speech and reception are open to the public at no charge. The Lena C. Bailey Memorial Lecture on Leadership was established in honor of Bailey, who served on the faculty and as an administrator for 35 years. A firm believer in nurturing student leaders in higher education to prepare them for professional leadership roles, Bailey asserted that “the greatest skill of a leader is human relations.” The lecture program reflects the College of Human Ecology’s ongoing initiative to develop leadership skills and to enhance the discussion and study of leadership among faculty and staff. The Lena C. Bailey Memorial Fund will provide support for the annual lecture.
