PRESIDENT GEE DELIVERS FINAL STATE OF UNIVERSITY SPEECH --Sept. 27. President Gee will give his annual address to the University Senate at 9 a.m. Saturday (9/27) in 103 Kottman Hall, 2021 Coffey Rd. Gee will discuss priorities for the new year and observe recent happenings in his talk. The University Senate is composed of faculty, administrators and student representatives. It is a legislative and policy-setting body and is the highest level of the university’s internal governance system. The senate meets monthly during the academic year. The president’s speech is traditionally a feature of the first meeting of the year. A mult-box will be available for electronic media. The Veterinary Fraternity, Omega Tau Sigma (OTS), will wash your dog from 9 a.m.- noon at the OSU Veterinary Hospital, 601 Tharp St. Proceeds benefit Pilot Dogs. The College of the Arts friends group, pARTners for the arts, is offering a special fund-raising tour of the OSU Chimp Lab at 11:30 a.m. Primatologist Sally Boysen, an associate professor of psychology, will host the event, introducing participants to her chimpanzee companions. Nationally known for her research and expertise, Boysen promises to share her amazing stories and vast knowledge. Proceeds will support projects in the College of the Arts. President Gee and university supporter Jack Schiff will host an invitation-only luncheon followed by a 2:15 p.m. performance of The Ohio State University Marching Band at Cinergy Field. PRESIDENTIAL SEARCH COMMITTEE INVITES PUBLIC INPUT--Sept. 29. The University Board of Trustees has begun a search for the next president of the university. As a method of gathering campus participation in the search process, the Trustees will host an open forum on Monday (9/29) from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Conference Theatre of the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St. Students, faculty and staff members, campus neighbors and interested members of the public can sign up at the door to speak. Comments are limited to five minutes per person. A similar forum was held in downtown Columbus earlier this month. Trustees hope to announce the selection of Ohio State’s 12th president by the end of March 1998. WEXNER CENTER SEARCHING FOR VOLUNTEERS --Sept. 27-Oct. 2. The Wexner Center for the Arts is searching for volunteers with an interest and enthusiasm for the contemporary arts to serve as tour guides, ushers, or information service staff members. Tour guides, who will lead groups of children and adults through gallery exhibitions, should attend an informational open house on Wednesday (10/1) from 1-3 p.m. in the Wexner Center lower level, 1871 N. High St. People interested in becoming ushers for performing arts events must attend a training session on Saturday (9/27) at 10 a.m. or Thursday (10/2) at 7 p.m. in Mershon Auditorium. The newly formed information services staff will greet visitors, provide information about programming and events, give directions, and work in the coat check area. High St. The search for the newest talent in modeling, music, acting, and comedy offers students a chance to win a $100 gift certificate from Discover Card and get their picture in Seventeen Magazine. NEW COLUMBUS SCHOOLS CHIEF SPEAKS TO EDUCATION FACULTY--Oct. 3. The Ohio State University College of Education will open the academic year by combining its continued outreach to local school districts with a college-wide welcome to new Columbus Public Schools Superintendent Rosa Smith. Smith will speak at the College of Education’s annual all-faculty meeting Friday (10/3) at approximately 12:15 p.m. in the Ohio Union Ballroom, 1739 N. High St. The event, planned around the theme of Building Local Partnerships, also includes remarks by Nancy Zimpher, dean of the College of Education. PARTICIPANTS SOUGHTS FOR DRUG STUDIES--The University Medical Center is looking for participants for two research studies. Pregnant women with asthma are needed to determine the impact of asthma on pregnancy, on mother and baby, and the effectiveness of two medications. To enroll, call 293-8145.
