Technology transfer -- the process of turning inventions into innovative products--is the topic of a two-day industry/university forum at the Columbus Westin Hotel, 310 S. High St. Technology Transfer: Turning Great Research into Innovative Products brings together senior officers of nearly 20 major technology firms, the chief research officers for more than a dozen national research universities, and major government officials involved in the promotion of research partnerships. Ohio State students will have an opportunity to tell urban planners how to improve High Street at a public forum on Tuesday, (10/7) at 7:30 p.m. in the Campus Partners office, 1824 N. High St. Students are invited to learn about and then comment on the High Street Urban Design Project, a plan to enhance High Street as the great main street of the University District. PRESIDENT GEE DELIVERS LECTURE ON LEADERSHIP--Oct. 8. Ohio State University President E. Gordon Gee will be the first speaker in a new lecture series established as a memorial to Lena C. Bailey, former dean and professor emeritus of the College of Human Ecology, who died in October 1996. Gee’s speech on leadership will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday (10/8) in the East Ballroom of the Ohio Union, 1739 N. High St. A reception will follow the lecture. Ohio State is the site for one of the first in a series of national debates on the U.S. tax system and possible replacements for it. U.S House Majority Leader Dick Armey, a supporter of the flat tax, will debate U.S. Representative Billy Tauzin, lead sponsor of the national sales tax bill, in a public forum on Friday (10/10) at 12 noon in Drinko Hall Auditorium, (the College of Law) 55 W. 12th Ave. The event is part of a nationwide series of high profile debates organized by Citizens for a Sound Economy Foundation, a Washington-based organization devoted to returning economic decisions to citizens.
