97-10-03 Trustees: Presidential Profile Approved TRUSTEES APPROVE PRESIDENTIAL PROFILE COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees on Friday (10/3) approved a profile that will guide the Presidential Search Committee as its members seek candidates for the next Ohio State president. The committee was appointed in September and will recommend a replacement for President E. Gordon Gee, whose resignation is effective at the end of 1997. The profile lists the essential qualities, skills and characteristics desired in the next president. According to the profile, the next president must have demonstrated significant achievements in academic leadership and institutional management. The profile calls for a highly respected academic leader and a tough-minded managerial leader of a multi-unit institution or organization. The next president also is expected to carry a strong record of implementation and strategic capability, and must have a demonstrated ability to energize and attract highly talented people. Intrinsic personal qualities sought in the next university president include outstanding intellectual breadth and depth; strong interpersonal traits; genuine concern for students; a high level of energy informed by perseverance; excellent communication skills; and exemplary integrity, trustworthiness and wisdom. The profile reflects input the Presidential Search Committee and the Board of Trustees received from university and community constituencies during two public forums in September and on the committee’s World Wide Web site at http://www.search.admin.ohio- state.edu. # Contact: Bill Napier, search committee coordinator, (614) 292- 2424 [Submitted by: Von Vargas (vargas.12@osu.edu) Fri, 3 Oct 1997 16:30:57 -0400 (EDT)] All documents are the responsibility of their originator.
