97-10-16 Ohio State Kicks Off Community Charitable Drive OHIO STATE TO KICK OFF 1997 COMMUNITY CHARITABLE DRIVE COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University, Columbus campus, has expanded its community charitable giving drive to include six agencies in addition to United Way of Franklin County. The drive, which runs from Oct. 20 through Dec. 5, also will include the Black United Fund of Central Ohio, Greater Columbus Community Shares, National Voluntary Health Services of Ohio, the College Fund/UNCF, United Way of Delaware County and United Way of Fairfield County. “We are pleased to expand the giving options for faculty and staff,” said Larry Lewellen, Ohio State’s acting vice president for human resources. “We carefully reviewed the applications to select federations that uphold the mission of the drive and have expanded to include agencies that serve central Ohio.” Historically, the community drive targeted agencies that provide direct health and human services to the residents of Franklin County. “Faculty and staff donations indicate a strong belief in giving back to the community where they live and work,” Lewellen said. “We are confident that expanding giving options will help us meet this year’s $700,000 goal.” Last year, Ohio State’s faculty and staff contributed more than $640,000 to the community drive. Co-chairs this year are Sherri Geldin, executive director of the Wexner Center, and Andy Geiger, assistant vice president for student affairs and director of athletics. # Contact: Cathy Cooper, director of human resources administration, (614) 292-4164.
