97-10-21 Advisory: Teacher of the Year to Speak NEWS ADVISORY: TEACHER OF THE YEAR TO SPEAK TO EDUCATORS OCT. 23 Sharon Draper, Ohio and National Teacher of the Year for 1997, will deliver a keynote speech Thursday (10/23) on teacher education to members of the Ohio Confederation of Teacher Education Organizations. Draper’s remarks will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. during a banquet at the Marriott North, 6500 Doubletree Ave., in Columbus. Nancy Zimpher, dean of The Ohio State University College of Education, will present Draper with the confederation’s Excellence in Education Award during the event. Zimpher is president of the Ohio Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, which is part of the confederation. Draper has taught in Cincinnati public schools for 27 years, and currently teaches literature and composition at Walnut Hills High School. In 1995, she was among the first group of 150 teachers in the country to be certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
