LAW SCHOOL HOLDS NEGOTIATION COMPETITION--Nov. 8. Law students from across the Midwest will compete in the regional negotiation skills competition beginning at 8 a.m. at Drinko Hall (College of Law), 55 W. 12th Ave. Every room in Drinko Hall is scheduled to be used for the day-long event. The competition simulates the negotiation process, where opposing parties try to agree to a settlement in order to avoid litigation. Judges, lawyers and other Columbus professionals will judge the teams as they negotiate a problem involving education law. PROFESSOR RETURNS TO BOSNIA TO SUPERVISE ELECTIONS--Nov. 14. Okey Onyejekwe, (O-kee On-yeh-JEK-way) director of Ohio State’s Center for African Studies, is returning to Bosnia on Nov. 14 to serve as an election supervisor for the Nov. 22-23 parliamentary elections. He is part of an international team to supervise the first parliamentary elections since the Dayton Peace Accord of 1995. He also supervised the Bosnian municipal elections held in September. He says expects to face many of the same obstacles that he encountered while supervising the municipal elections. Those problems included land mines, a heavily armed citizenry, and voters being turned away because of missing identification and voter registration papers. Up to 1,300 transportation engineers are expected at the 51st annual Ohio Transportation Engineering Conference at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. U.S. Congressman Steve LaTourette will keynote the opening session on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 10:30 a.m. The event is sponsored by Ohio State and the Ohio Department of Transportation. Best-selling author Dennis Kimbro will discuss marketing America’s future through cultural diversity at the Office of Minority Affairs (OMA) annual Faculty and Staff Colloquy, 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on the Lane, 385 W. Lane Ave. Originated by Frank W. Hale, vice provost emeritus for minority affairs, the colloquy serves as a forum for faculty and staff to examine national issues as they relate to higher education. Kimbro is the director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Clark Atlanta University and the author of several books, including Daily Motivations for African American Success and What Makes the Great Great: Strategies for Extraordinary Achievement.
