DIPLOMAT SPEAKS AT AFRICAN STUDIES CONFERENCE--Nov. 14. Susan Rice, U.S. assistant secretary of state for African affairs, will discuss U.S. African Policy: A Look Ahead from 2:15 to 3:45 p.m. today (11/14) in the Fairfield Room of the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 350 N. High St. Her speech is part of a conference hosted by Ohio State titled African Studies Association and Africa: The First Forty Years. About 1,500 scholars are expected at the event to discuss politics, economics, culture, the arts and sociology of Africa. Rice formerly worked with the National Security Council as director of international organizations and peacekeeping, and as special assistant to the president and senior director for African affairs. On Saturday (11/15),David Rubadiri, permanent representative of Malawi to the United Nations will speak on Yet Another Song: Implications of Literature and Art on African Societies and Politics at 7 p.m. in the Union Ballroom. A novelist and poet, Rubadiri is also a lecturer at Makerere College in Uganda and at the University of Nairobi, Kenya. Twelve of the 17- member Buckeye Dance Force will travel to China on Monday for a 16-day, five-city trip that includes dance clinics, tours and performances. The student team was selected in a national search by the Chinese Men’s Basketball Alliance. AUTHOR DISCUSSES CULTURAL DIVERSITY IN HIGHER EDUCATION--Nov. 20. Best-selling author Dennis Kimbro will discuss marketing America’s future through cultural diversity at the Office of Minority Affairs (OMA) annual Faculty and Staff Colloquy, 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. at the Holiday Inn on the Lane, 385 W. Lane Ave. Originated by Frank W. Hale, vice provost emeritus for minority affairs, the colloquy serves as a forum for faculty and staff to examine national issues as they relate to higher education. Kimbro is the director of the Center for Entrepreneurship at Clark Atlanta University and the author of several books, including Daily Motivations for African American Success and What Makes the Great Great: Strategies for Extraordinary Achievement.
