URBAN EDUCATION REFORM NETWORK MEETS IN COLUMBUS--Dec. 11-13. Local educators are providing leadership for a national reform agenda that will bring educators from across the country to Columbus to discuss improved education of teachers for urban schools. Participants will meet through Saturday (12/11-12/13) at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, 33 E. Nationwide Blvd. The educators are members of the Holmes Partnership’s Urban Network to Improve Teacher Education (UNITE). The Holmes Partnership, headed by President Nancy Zimpher, dean of The Ohio State University College of Education, is a reform-minded confederation of 70 schools and colleges of education working closely with their local school districts. Reporters are welcome at meetings taking place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday in the Muirfield Rooms of the Crowne Plaza. As President Gee prepares to say “Good-bye, Columbus,” university staff will wish him farewell on Thursday, 4-6 p.m. at the Wexner Center. BERNADINE HEALY--Dec. 20-21. Dr. Bernadine Healy, dean of The Ohio State University College of Medicine and former director of the National Institutes of Health, makes a special guest appearance on PBS’ HealthWeek to discuss what is on the horizon for women’s health in 1998. Among the topics on the program on women’s health issues: diet pills, designer estrogen, and assisted reproduction. The HealthWeek program airs in Columbus on WOSU-TV on Dec. 21 at 3:30 p.m. It will also be broadcast on PBS stations in Cleveland and Cincinnati Dec. 20-24.
