TRUSTEES ACCEPT ENDOWED FUNDS, RENAME BUILDING, NAME INTERNAL SPACES COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Board of Trustees on Friday (2/6) accepted 23 new named endowed funds, renamed a building and named internal spaces across campus. Board accepts 23 new named endowed funds, one professorship Trustees heard a report from Jerry May, vice president for development, on development efforts, including the establishment of the Abba G. Lichtenstein Professorship in Civil Engineering. Gifts of $501,588 were received from Lichtenstein, a 1948 Ohio State alumnus who has achieved international recognition for his work on the design and historic preservation of bridges, and the Transportation Research Center Inc. of East Liberty, Ohio. The gifts will support a professorship focusing on transportation infrastructure engineering in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Geodetic Science. May also reported the establishment of 23 new named endowed funds with gifts totaling more than $3 million: -- The Perry A. Davis and Jay L. Ladd Fine Arts Library Memorial Fund, $131,835, supporting growth of the Fine Arts Library. -- The Ray A. Wells Memorial Scholarship Fund in Pharmacy, $25,200, to provide scholarships in the College of Pharmacy. -- The Alan Stockmeister Athletic Scholarship Fund, $25,000. -- The DCT Scholarship Fund, $25,000, to provide scholarships in the Department of Industrial, Welding and Systems Engineering. -- The Scioto County 4-H Endowment Fund, $20,867. -- The Hollister Sisters Critical Difference For Women Re-entry Scholarship Fund, $15,121, to provide scholarships for women who have interrupted their education to meet other responsibilities and need financial support to re-enter school. -- The Penny Karlsberger Memorial Lecture Fund, $15,000, to fund the annual Karlsberger Lecture in the College of Education. -- The Roy R. and Virginia Hyde Sultzbach Memorial Scholarship, $686,672, to fund scholarships in the College of Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. -- The William Fulton Hyde, M.D., and Willard Blackburn Hyde, M.D, Memorial Fund in Medicine, $686,672, to fund scholarships in the College of Medicine and Public Health. -- The Ford Motor Company Chair in Global Business Management Fund, $375,000, to support a named chair in the Fisher College of Business. -- The Gene Alan Wallar Fund in Psychology, $313,428, to provide graduate fellowships in recognition of Professor Harold V. Gaskill in the Department of Psychology. -- The Annabelle E. Hoge Endowment Fund, $190,110, to provide scholarships and student support in the School of Natural Resources. -- The Helen A. Freyman Scholarship Fund in Medicine, $142,835. -- The C. and J. Strovilas Athletic Scholarship Endowment Fund, $85,108. -- The John M. Bowsher Scholarship Fund, $58,898, to provide scholarships in the College of Law. -- The Tahlman Krumm Jr. Library Fund, $50,050, to support programs in the University Libraries. -- The Thomas P. and Patricia L. Brundige Food Science and Technology Program Fund, $40,008. -- The George A. Jenkins Scholarship Fund, $28,125, for athletics scholarships. -- The Women’s Swimming Team December Training Endowment Fund, $26,480. -- The J. Ewing Smith Scholarship Fund, $26,000, to provide scholarships in the College of Law. -- Marcy Hill Terry Memorial Scholarship Fund, $25,500, to provide scholarships in the School of Journalism and Communication. -- Arthur D. Lynn Jr. and Pauline Wardlow Lynn Fund, $25,481, to fund master’s degree-level scholarships in the School of Public Policy and Management. -- The Jerrold R. Voss Scholarship Fund, $25,000, to fund scholarships in the Knowlton School of Architecture in the name of Jerrold R. Voss. Schottenstein Center renamed Trustees changed the name of Ohio State’s new convocation, sports and multipurpose center from The Schottenstein Center to The Jerome Schottenstein Center in memory of the family patriarch. The family requested the change. The building was so named to reflect the Schottenstein family’s tradition of philanthropy, service and dedication to the community and Ohio State. The Schottenstein family, the Schottenstein Stores Corp. and Value City Stores contributed $12.5 million toward the construction of the arena. Internal spaces named Trustees also approved naming the following internal university spaces to honor those whose contributions supported the construction, equipping or furnishing of the facilities. The donors will be appropriately recognized within the spaces. Kaufman Family Ohio State’s Men’s Locker Room Driveway renamed Trustees voted to name the Agricultural Technical Institute’s main driveway Garrison Circle in honor of Dan D. Garrison, the second director of the Wooster institute. Garrison was director of ATI from 1979 until his retirement in 1992. His pioneering leadership in two-year technical education at Clark State and ATI is recognized widely throughout Ohio and the nation. Garrison provided leadership for Wooster’s major campus building programs, including the Student Activity Center, the Dairy Instructional Lab and the Honey Bee Laboratory.
