THEODORE CELESTE ELECTED CHAIR OF TRUSTEES

	COLUMBUS -- Theodore S. Celeste, a Columbus businessman, was 
elected chair of The Ohio State University Board of Trustees on 
Friday (5/1).  He succeeds Alex Shumate, whose nine-year term as 
a trustee ends on May 13.  Celeste is completing his eighth year 
as a trustee.

	Gov. George V. Voinovich soon will appoint a new trustee to 
replace Shumate and a new student trustee to replace Mark 
Berkman, who is completing his two-year term as a student 
trustee.

	As chair, Celeste will lead the board of a university with
an annual budget of $1.6 billion.  Ohio State has about 55,000
undergraduate, graduate and professional students, including more
than 48,000 on the Columbus campus.

	Celeste is president of Celeste & Associates, a residential 
real estate company in Grandview Heights.  He formerly was 
chairman and president of Advanced Interactive Video Inc.  He is 
a member of the Columbus Board of Realtors, the National 
Association of Realtors and First Community Church in Marble 
Cliff.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from the 
College of Wooster.

	Columbus trial lawyer Michael F. Colley, a trustee since 
1991, was elected vice chair of the board.  Colley is immediate 
past president of the American Board of Trial Advocates.  He 
served as a member of the Ohio Board of Regents from 1982 to 1986 
and has been chair of the Franklin County Republican Party since 
1978.  He graduated from Ohio State’s College of Law in 1961.
	
     Re-elected were William J. Napier as secretary and James L.
Nichols as treasurer.

     The board also approved several appointments to board
committees and representatives to other university-affiliated
boards and commissions.  The appointments are as follows:

     Educational Affairs Committee:  Colley, chair; George A. 
Skestos, vice chair; Daniel M. Slane and Soraya Rofagha.
     Fiscal Affairs Committee:  James F. Patterson, chair; Zuheir 
Sofia, vice chair; David L. Brennan and Tamala Longaberger.
	Student Affairs Committee:  Longaberger, chair; Rofagha, 
vice chair; the new trustee and student trustee also will be 
members of this committee.
	Agricultural Affairs Committee:  Slane, chair; Fred L. 
Dailey, vice chair, ex officio; and the new trustee.
	Investments Committee:  Brennan, chair; Skestos, vice chair; 
Patterson, John G. McCoy and Frank Wobst.  McCoy and Wobst
are members of The Ohio State University Foundation Board.
     Affiliated Entities Committee:  Colley, chair; Patterson, 
vice chair; Sofia and Skestos.
     University Hospitals Board:  Skestos and Sofia.
     The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Research Institute
Board:  Sofia, chair, and Slane.
     University Managed Health Care System, Inc., Board of
Directors:  Patterson.
     Personnel Committee:  Celeste, chair; Colley, vice chair;
and Skestos.
     University Foundation Ex Officio Class of Directors:
Brennan, one-year term; Longaberger, two-year term; and Sofia, 
three-year term.
     Ohio State University Affiliates, Inc.:  Celeste, one-year
