5-22-98 GRADUATE STUDENT ALLYSON LOWE APPOINTED TO BOARD OF TRUSTEES COLUMBUS -- The newest student member of The Ohio State University Board of Trustees already is a seasoned veteran of student trustee service in Ohio. Allyson Lowe, 24, of COLUMBUS (43214), was a student trustee at Miami University from 1994 to 1996. Now a doctoral student in political science at Ohio State, Lowe earned her bachelor's degree in political science from Miami in 1996. Gov. George V. Voinovich recently announced Lowe's two-year appointment to the board. She replaces Mark E. Berkman, whose term expired May 13. Lowe said she sought the trustee appointment because of her commitment to service and volunteerism. "I have a deeply held value for community service and public service. Being able to give my time and energy is important," Lowe said, adding, "I'm also very interested in how institutions work, and I enjoyed the experience of serving as a student trustee at Miami University." A Westerville native, Lowe is in her second year as a Ph.D. student at Ohio State. She specializes in comparative politics with emphasis on Western Europe and the European Union. She is a graduate research assistant in the Political Research Lab, is a student member of University Senate, serves on the Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility, and is a student representative on her department's Graduate Studies Committee. Lowe also is the recipient of the Ohio Board of Regents Graduate Fellowship for the 1996-97 and 1997-98 academic years. # Contact: Allyson Lowe, (614) 292-0511 William J.
