6-3-98 NEWS ADVISORY STUDENTS TO HOLD MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR TEREL TINSLEY Ohio State University students will hold a "Celebration of Life" service on Thursday evening (6/4) to remember Terel L. Tinsley, an Ohio State freshman who died Sunday (5/31) of meningitis. The service will begin at 6 p.m. at the Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center, 153 W. 12th Ave. It is expected to last about 90 minutes. Richard Sisson, interim president of Ohio State, said, "Our hearts go out to Terel's family at this very difficult time. Terel brought great spirit and energy to all he undertook, and he will be sadly missed by his many friends in the university community." The event planning is being led by Erica Estep, a hall director in the Office of Residence Life. It will include sharing of memories of Tinsley by some of his close friends at Ohio State, music and a time for remarks by anyone who wishes to speak. It is anticipated that Tinsley's family will have returned to their home in Georgia and will not be in attendance. There will be a collection box for those who wish to make contributions to the Tinsley family. Contributions may also be directed through William Hall, assistant vice president for student affairs, 6th Floor, Lincoln Tower, 1800 Cannon Dr., Columbus, OH 43210. Checks should be made payable to James M. Tinsley. The Celebration of Life is open to all. The student organizers have no objection to media attendance, but have asked that cameras(both video and still) not be brought into the service. Reporters are welcome to interview students outside the Hale Center. # Contact: Erica Estep, 292-8611, or Ruth Gerstner, University Communications, 292-8424
