EDUCATION STUDENTS HAVE ONLY ONE CHANCE--Aug. 17. Mathematics, science and technology students in the College of Education hope they won’t end the summer quarter with egg on their faces. The School of Teaching and Learning students on Monday (8/17) will build gadgets and to try to keep raw eggs intact after a three-floor drop from the north fire escape on Arps Hall, 1945 N. High St. The future math, science and technology teachers will prepare their designs -- made of cheesecloth, drinking straws and foam cups -- from 3:30 to 4 p.m. The drop will be from 4 to 4:15 p.m. They will use what they learn to teach future middle and high school students. KIDS’ ART WORKS ON DISPLAY--Aug. 17-28. Elephant, giraffe and ostrich sculptures and other works of art by summer art workshop participants ranging in ages from 6-16 will be on display Monday (8/17) through Friday (8/28) at the Hopkins Hall Gallery, 128 North Oval Mall. The kids, who took part in the Wexner Center Summer Youth Workshops, worked individually and in groups throughout the summer with practicing artists and educators to create paintings, Web site visuals, computer animation and nature sculptures. A reception for the artists will be held Monday (8/17) from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the gallery. CONTACT: Rina Kundu, 292-0330. OHIO STATE HOLDS FESTIVAL OF QUALITY--Aug. 19. Improved business processes at Ohio State will be showcased at the fourth annual Continuous Quality Improvement Festival of Quality Wednesday (8/19) on the South Oval and at Browning Amphitheater by Mirror Lake from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and again from 10 p.m. to midnight. Sponsored by the Office of Business and Administration, departments will highlight the services they provide for the university. APPLES, BANANAS OR CARROTS? LEARN THE ABCs OF HEALTHY SNACKING-- Aug. 25. Juggling busy schedules often makes it difficult for families to eat as healthfully as they would like. On Tuesday (8/25) from noon to 1 p.m. in room 122 Oxley Hall, 1712 Neil Ave., Ohio State University human nutritionist Mary Kerschel will discuss how to choose healthy snacks for children and examine the importance of these snacks in their developing lives.
