Floyd A. Meadows, 55, of Lancaster, an assistant building
superintendent at The Ohio State University, died at 12:16 p.m.
today at University Hospitals of injuries sustained when he was
struck by a car on the university campus early this morning.
Meadows, who had been employed by Ohio State since 1991, was
assigned to supervise custodial services in several buildings in
the south area of campus. He was on a break shortly before 8
a.m. today when a car driven by Estelle Silbermann, 60, of
Columbus struck him as he stood near a back door of Lazenby Hall,
one of the buildings under his supervision. Also injured was
Eugene Johnson, 37, of Columbus, a custodian in Lazenby Hall, who
remains in serious condition at University Hospitals. Silbermann
is in fair condition, also at University Hospitals.
Co-workers called Meadows “personable” and “well-liked” and
expressed shock and sorrow about his death.
Meadows is survived by his wife, Joyce Meadows, and two
children at home. Funeral arrangements have not been made at
this time.
The accident remains under investigation by University
Police.
Ohio State President William E. Kirwan offered condolences:
