ACCIDENT VICTIM DIES OF INJURIES, INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

	Floyd A. Meadows, 55, of Lancaster, an assistant building 
superintendent at The Ohio State University, died at 12:16 p.m. 
today at University Hospitals of injuries sustained when he was 
struck by a car on the university campus early this morning.

	Meadows, who had been employed by Ohio State since 1991, was 
assigned to supervise custodial services in several buildings in 
the south area of campus.  He was on a break shortly before 8 
a.m. today when a car driven by Estelle Silbermann, 60, of 
Columbus struck him as he stood near a back door of Lazenby Hall, 
one of the buildings under his supervision.  Also injured was 
Eugene Johnson, 37, of Columbus, a custodian in Lazenby Hall, who 
remains in serious condition at University Hospitals.  Silbermann 
is in fair condition, also at University Hospitals.

	Co-workers called Meadows “personable” and “well-liked” and 
expressed shock and sorrow about his death.

	Meadows is survived by his wife, Joyce Meadows, and two 
children at home.  Funeral arrangements have not been made at 
this time.

	The accident remains under investigation by University 
Police.

	Ohio State President William E. Kirwan offered condolences:  
“All of us at Ohio State are deeply saddened by the sudden and 
tragic loss of a member of our university family.  We extend our 
sincere and heartfelt sympathy to Floyd Meadows’ family, friends 
and co-workers.”
