NEWS ADVISORY:
NEWS CONFERENCE TO OUTLINE PARTICIPATION IN RACIAL INITIATIVES
Ohio State University President William E. Kirwan will hold
a news conference on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 1:30 p.m. in 200 Bricker
Hall, 190 N. Oval Mall, to discuss the university’s participation
in two national initiatives on race and diversity. They are the
Association of American Colleges and Universities’ “Racial
Legacies and Learning: An American Dialogue” initiative, and the
American Council on Education’s “A National Public Education
Initiative to Strengthen and Support Diversity in Higher
Education.”
Kirwan will outline the key events and programs Ohio State
will conduct this year on the topic of race and diversity. They
include some that are linked directly to the national programs,
and some that are unique to Ohio State. They are organized
around the questions, “How can higher education, with its local
communities, prepare graduates to address the legacies of racism
and the opportunities for racial reconciliation in the United
States?” and “Why can’t we talk about race now?”
Also participating in the news conference will be Ed Ray,
interim senior vice president and provost; David Williams II,
vice president for student and urban/community affairs; and
Janice Hoffman, director of Ethnic Student Services.
Media parking will be available on 17th Avenue on the north
side of Bricker Hall. A mult box will be provided.
