HOMECOMING PARADE IS MOVED TO SATURDAY MORNING
COLUMBUS -- Ohio State University President William E. Kirwan
and his wife, Patty Kirwan, will be the grand marshals for the
homecoming parade Saturday, Oct. 17, as Ohio State celebrates
Homecoming Week.
“The students asked the Kirwans to be the parade grand marshals
to welcome them to the Ohio State homecoming tradition in grand
style, and were thrilled the Kirwans accepted,” said Tracy Stuck,
director of student activities.
Stuck said the parade was moved from the traditional Friday
night to the Saturday morning time to continue the university effort
to work collaboratively with the community. “We moved the parade to
Saturday morning to make it more of a campus and Columbus community
event, and to make it more accessible to allow more families and fans
to view the parade,” Stuck said.
The parade, featuring floats, the homecoming court and some 80
other entries, will begin at 9 a.m. at 17th and Neil avenues. It
will proceed east on 17th Avenue, south on High Street, and west on
12th Avenue to end at 12th and Neil avenues. The parade floats will
be on display on the Oval after the parade.
High Street will be closed between 12th and 17th avenues five
minutes before the start of the parade. Nineteenth, 18th and 17th
avenues will close at 5 a.m., with no parking on the streets, to
allow the parade to proceed. Parking for those who want to view the
parade only is available at the Ohio Union garage, 1739 N. High St.,
and the Arps Hall garage, 1745 N. High St. Normal day-of-game
traffic and parking is in effect for those who go to the game. All
public parking is $5, and there is no charge for university parking
decal holders.
