HALL NAMED ACTING ADA COORDINATOR AT OHIO STATE

COLUMBUS -- Patrick J. Hall has been named acting
coordinator of the Americans with Disabilities and Rehabilitation
Act at The Ohio State University. The appointment, which was
announced by President William E. Kirwan, is effective
immediately.

Hall currently serves as director of Student Judicial
Affairs in the Division of Student Affairs at Ohio State, and he
will continue in that role while undertaking the ADA
responsibilities.

In his capacity as acting ADA coordinator, Hall will report
to the vice provost for academic programs and initiatives in the
Office of Academic Affairs and will coordinate his activities
with the Office of the President. His primary role will be to
ensure that the university is in compliance with ADA requirements
and to begin the planning process for programs and initiatives
for the Ohio State community. He will continue in the position
of acting coordinator until a permanent appointment is made
following a national search.

“Pat Hall’s appointment will help ensure that Ohio State is
in compliance with the mandates of the ADA legislation and that
all qualified people have access to the many opportunities
afforded by this university,” Kirwan said. “We are fortunate to
have someone with his experience and training.”

Hall has a B.A. degree in sociology from Wittenberg
University and a J.D. degree from Ohio Northern University
College of Law. He is a Ph.D. candidate at Bowling Green State
University, where he is studying higher education administration.
In 1994, Hall co-authored a chapter in New Directions for Student
Services entitled “Antidiscrimination Laws and Student Affairs”
in which he specifically wrote on Section 504 and the ADA and
their relationship to institutions of higher education.

Edward Ray, interim senior vice president and provost, said
that Hall “will bring coordination to the many decentralized
programs that currently address disability issues for faculty,
staff, students and visitors to our campus. This will help make
Ohio State even more open, welcoming and supportive for all.”

Prior to coming to Ohio State in 1997, Hall served as
director of Student Judicial Services at Ferris State University
in Michigan, and as coordinator of Chapter Services, Residential
Services, at Bowling Green.
