PARKING INFORMATION FOR SCHOTTENSTEIN CENTER EVENTS
COLUMBUS -- With the long-awaited grand opening of the
Jerome Schottenstein Center taking place this week,
transportation and parking services officials at The Ohio State
University are advising people who come to campus for events to
come early and pay attention to traffic control officers. There
will be 28 events at the Schottenstein Center during this
inaugural month.
More than 2,200 parking spaces are in lots adjacent to the
center, and other designated parking -- about 7,000 spaces -- is
less than a five- to 10-minute walk from the facility, primarily
on what is known as the university’s agriculture and veterinary
campuses west of the Olentangy River. For some events, a shuttle
bus will be available from west campus parking lots at Lane
Avenue and Kenny Road. Other campus bus service to the
Schottenstein Center is available every 15 minutes on the Buckeye
Village route.
Because of the academic mission on the agriculture and
veterinary campuses, some parking will be set aside for faculty,
staff and students during events. The majority of events at the
Jerome Schottenstein Center will take place in the evenings or on
weekends, so the impact on university parking is expected to be
minimal.
For men’s basketball games, guests who are suite owners or
who hold seat licenses will receive permits to park in the lots
adjacent to the center. Season ticket holders will receive
permits for the lots at St. John Arena and French Field House and
on Olentangy River Road. Those permits are provided by the
Athletic Department ticket office. Other guests will be directed
to nearby lots, where parking for the general public will be $5
and free for faculty, staff and students with university permits.
Similar guidelines are in effect for women’s basketball,
hockey and other special events and concerts, although fewer
spaces will be reserved in the center lots for permit holders.
Parking for university permit holders will be free and general
parking for the public will be $5. Public parking for hockey
fans will be $3, however.
Guests will be able to drop off individuals in front of the
center without having to pay to enter the parking lots. They may
access the traffic loop for drop-offs traveling south on
Olentangy River Road only. Parking for guests with permanent
disabilities will be available in front rows of center parking
lots.
The parking lots at the Schottenstein Center will be
available during the day for remote parking for university permit
holders, but cars must be removed by 5:30 p.m. on event nights,
when the lots will be cleared for event parking.
People attending Schottenstein Center events who come from
state Route 315 are advised to exit the freeway at Ackerman Road
instead of Lane Avenue. No other special traffic patterns will
be in effect during events, although traffic may be halted for a
few minutes on Lane Avenue between Olentangy River Road and Fred
Taylor Drive to allow crowds to cross Lane following events.
