TWO ATTORNEYS JOIN OHIO STATE OFFICE OF LEGAL AFFAIRS

	COLUMBUS -- The Ohio State University Office of Legal 
Affairs has announced the appointment of two new attorneys, 
Todd Guttman and Kimberly Shumate, to its staff.

	Guttman, of WESTERVILLE, is an associate legal counsel 
overseeing issues of intellectual property, ethics and conflict 
of interest.  He will provide counsel to research-related units 
in the university, such as the offices of Research, Technology 
Licensing, and Research Risk Protection.  He also will serve as 
the legal liaison to the Science and Technology Campus being 
developed in the west campus area.

	Guttman, who joined Legal Affairs on Nov. 2, formerly worked 
for the firm of Hahn, Loeser & Parks, specializing in the 
representation of technology companies, health care provider 
organizations and professional associations.  A former assistant 
professor of emergency medicine at Wright State University and 
associate chairman of acute care services at Wright Patterson Air 
Force Base Medical Center, Guttman received his law degree in 1996 
and his doctor of medicine degree in 1985, both from Ohio State.  
He earned bachelor’s degrees in chemistry and biology from Cleveland 
State University in 1979.  

	Shumate, who joins Legal Affairs Nov. 9, is an associate legal 
counsel serving as the office’s employment attorney.  She will handle 
employment-related matters and provide advice in areas of labor 
relations, mediation and dispute resolution.  She also will provide 
training on compliance and developments in employment laws.

	Shumate, of POWELL, previously represented corporate clients and 
health care practices as a specialist in labor and employment matters 
for the Columbus firm of Porter Wright Morris and Arthur.  She is a 
1992 graduate of Ohio State’s College of Law, and earned her 
bachelor’s degree in political science from Northwestern University in 
1989.  She also has studied international law and civil law through 
the College of William and Mary School of Law’s study abroad program 
at the University of Madrid College of Law in Spain.
