UNIVERSITY CLOSED FOR THANKSGIVING BREAK--Nov. 26-27. Offices will be closed and there will be no classes on Thursday and Friday. Thursday is Thanksgiving. The university observes Columbus Day on Friday.
WHAT IS THE STATE’S ROLE IN EDUCATION?--Dec. 3. Former Ohio State education professor Erwin Epstein, who now is chair of the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy at Loyola University of Chicago, will present The State's Role in Compelling Children to Learn at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in 136 Ramseyer Hall, 29 W. Woodruff Ave. There will a discussion from 2:45-3:15 p.m. Epstein studies the role of education in furthering democracy in Latin America, and in achieving freedom and equality. BOARD OF TRUSTEES MEETS--Dec. 4. The Board of Trustees and its committees will hold its regular December meeting at 10:30 a.m. in 800, Fisher Hall, 2100 Neil Ave. Committee meetings, where most of the discussion takes place, begin at 9 a.m. CONTACT: Emily Caldwell, University Communications, 292-8309.
YOUTH RECEIVE DISPUTE RESOLUTION CERTIFICATES--Dec. 4. Nearly 150 third, fourth and fifth grade students from East Linden Elementary School will receive certificates indicating completion of six one-hour training sessions on dispute resolution. The training sessions were led by 13 Ohio State law students and five attorneys from the firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey, which sponsors the program. The program trains youngsters to resolve conflicts through problem solving, cooperation and respect for each other. The award program begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Ohio Statehouse, which the elementary students will tour , along with the Squire, Sanders & Dempsey offices, before having lunch and being presented with their certificates.
