FOUR EDUCATORS AT OHIO STATE NAMED SCIENCE ACADEMY FELLOWS
COLUMBUS -- Four faculty members at The Ohio State
University are among 48 scientists, engineers and educators who
were named recently as Fellows of the Ohio Academy of Science.
Fellows are members who have rendered special service to the
Ohio Academy of Science or have made extensive, productive,
scientific, technological or educational contributions to
society. The distinction of Fellow is an honorary position.
“Fellows provide a deep and rich pool of talent from which
to draw ideas for strong programs, to help improve science
education and to advise state and local governments of science-
and engineering-based policy issues,” said Lynn E. Elfner, chief
executive officer of the Ohio Academy of Science.
The honorees are:
-- George Hall of UPPER ARLINGTON, professor emeritus of
natural resources. Hall specializes in soil science and has
taught at Ohio State for 30 years.
-- John M. Cassady of COLUMBUS (43235), a professor and dean
of the College of Pharmacy. Cassady specializes in organic
chemistry and has taught at Ohio State since 1988.
-- Ann Christy of COLUMBUS (43210), an assistant professor
of food, agricultural and biological engineering. Christy
specializes in bioremediation of soil and water contamination and
has taught at Ohio State since 1996.
-- Robert Vertrees of WORTHINGTON, an assistant professor of
natural resources. Vertrees specializes in environmental policy
and has taught at Ohio State since 1976.
The Ohio Academy of Science strives to be the leading
organization in Ohio to foster curiosity, discovery and
innovation and to unite all who value education, science,
engineering, technology or their applications for the benefit of
society.
The honorees will receive certificates at the Academy’s
annual meeting during the spring at Cleveland State University.
