                        NEWS ADVISORY:
              UNIVERSITY WELCOMES GLENN TO CAMPUS

	Ohio State University President William E. Kirwan will join 
students, faculty, staff and administrators on Wednesday, (12/16) 
to roll out the scarlet and gray carpet welcoming U.S. Senator 
John Glenn and Mrs. Glenn to the university.  It will be the 
Glenns’ first trip to Ohio State since Sept. 18, when the 
university announced establishment of the John Glenn Institute 
for Public Service and Public Policy.

	During the program, Senator Glenn will present President 
Kirwan with an Ohio State memento that Glenn took aboard the 
space shuttle Discovery.

	The dinner and program will be held from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in 
the Drake Union Thurber Theatre, 1849 Cannon Drive.  Media 
wishing to cover the program should arrive around 8 p.m. and 
enter Drake Union through the northeast door on the ground level.  
Take the elevator to the first floor.  An audio mult box will be 
provided.

	The program will also include performances by the Muskingum 
College Choir and by faculty, staff and students in the Ohio 
State College of the Arts. 

	The John Glenn Institute for Public Service and Public 
Policy is designed to provide expanded academic and service 
experiences for students, and practical educational opportunities 
for citizens and policymakers.  Faculty research concerning 
pressing American problems will be shared with government 
officials through institute programming.

	Glenn already has been appointed as a University Honors 
Distinguished Fellow and an adjunct professor in both the School 
of Public Policy and Management and the Department of Political 
Science.
