SUGAR BOWL COMMUNITY SERVICE REMINDER

Hundreds of Ohio State University students, faculty, administrators and fans will be part of an expanded community service project in New Orleans coinciding with the Buckeyes’ Sugar Bowl appearance on Jan. 1. Volunteers will be working on 16 projects at service organizations throughout New Orleans Tuesday (12/29) through Thursday (12/31). The projects are:

Tuesday
-- Daycare work at the YWCA, 601 S. Jefferson Davis Pkwy., (3:30-5 p.m.)
-- Meal assistance at the Salvation Army, 4500 S. Clairborne Ave., (4:45-6:45 p.m.)

Wednesday
-- Pre-employment interaction with clients at the Community Service Center Inc., 4000 Magazine St., (9 a.m. to noon)
-- Building shelves and cleaning at the Boys & Girls Club of Greater New Orleans, 3037 N. Rampart St., (9-11 a.m.)
-- Organizing the library at United Cerebral Palsy, Children’ Services, 1000 Leonidas St., (9:15-11:15 a.m.)
-- Gardening at the Arc of Greater New Orleans, 5700 Loyola Ave., (9 a.m.-noon)
-- Hanging clothes at Goodwill Industries, 1000 S. Jefferson Davis Pkwy., (10 a.m.-noon)

Thursday
-- Making sandwiches and folding sheets at Ozanam Inn, 843 Camp St., (9-11 a.m.; Ohio State President William E. Kirwan and Texas A&M President Ray M. Bowen are scheduled to work at this site)
-- Restructuring the office at the YWCA, 601 S. Jefferson Davis Pkwy., (9 a.m.-noon)
-- Visiting children at the University Hospital Pediatric Unit, 2021 Perido Ave., (2-4 p.m.)
-- Kitchen/thrift store work at the Bridge House Corp., 1160 Camp St., (10 a.m.-noon)
-- Packing food at Second Harvesters Food Bank, 1201 Sams Ave., (10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m.)
-- Band birthday party performance at the Home & Rehabilitation Center, 612 Henry Clay Ave., (2-4 p.m.)
-- Playing bingo with the elderly at Poydras Home, 5354 Magazine St., (1:30-3 p.m.)
-- Cheerleader visit to Children’s Hospital (time TBA)

Tracy Stuck, director of student activities at Ohio State and coordinator of the projects, said fans attending the game are encouraged to assist at the volunteer sites.
