NEWS ADVISORY:
ASTRONAUT NANCY CURRIE TO SPEAK TO STUDENTS, MEDIA

Nancy Currie, a NASA astronaut who was the flight engineer on the first International Space Station assembly mission two months ago, will speak to Ohio State University students on Thursday afternoon (Feb. 4). She’ll make a presentation in 100 Ives Hall from 1 to 2:15 p.m., followed by a half-hour media availability. She will also present the university’s Alumni Association with a memento from her latest shuttle mission. The association will be represented by the chair of its board of directors, Ohio Chief Justice Thomas Moyer, and its president and CEO, Dan Heinlen.

Currie, a 1980 graduate of Ohio State, is a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army and is the guest of Ohio State’s ROTC programs. She will speak about her experiences as an Army aviator and NASA astronaut and about career opportunities in the military and at NASA. She will describe her role on the December shuttle mission, in which she operated the robotic arm that retrieved the Russian module for connection to the U.S. module.

Ives Hall is located on the south side of Woodruff Avenue between Neil Avenue and Tuttle Park Place. Parking is available in the Northwest Ramp, immediately south of Ives Hall and entered from Tuttle Park Place. Enter Ives Hall at the southeast entrance for easiest access to Room 100. An audio mult box will be provided during Currie’s talk. She will meet informally with reporters at the conclusion of her presentation to the students and the Alumni Association -- at about 2:15 p.m.
