Barring any last-minute decisions, it appears that the State of Ohio will execute Wilford Berry Jr. at 9 p.m. on Friday (2/19). The unusual case of the man dubbed ‘the Volunteer’ involves a number of legal questions.
Although Berry still has the right to appeal his death sentence, he says that he would rather die. His lawyers and family say he is mentally incompetent to make that decision.
A panel of Ohio State University College of Law faculty members will discuss the serious and timely issues contained in the Berry case tomorrow (2/18) at noon in 251 Drinko Hall (College of Law), 55 W. 12th Ave. The discussion is open to media, and faculty will be available afterward for interviews.
